In last Friday's episode of #MakeFitHappen, on "MINDFULNESS & MEDITATION", we had a first-hand experience of how being one with our thoughts and mind can do wonders for our well-being with Yoga Exercises, Meditation and Philosophy Teacher, Renato Evangelista.
During the program, we learned that mindfulness is being ina state of awareness and presence to the now - a oneness, with your mind and thoughts, in order to achieve an internal sense of peace. According to Renato, similar to our bodies, our minds need to be nurtured as it translates to so much benefits to our body and mental condition. In the same way, that to remain physically healthy we eat healthy nutritious foods, we need to feed our minds with positive thoughts as well.
With our times now, when stimulus and information are available left and right, we have to be discerning and selective of the things we put into our thoughts as it affects us and how we react to the environment. We have limited power to change what is happening around us, but we have the power to control how it affects us.
In addition, Renato taught us that we are more than our physical bodies, we are more than our minds, we are the spirit that can control how our bodies and minds direct us, and not the other way round. We can make our mind and body work for us in way that it directs us to things that are good and not be overwhelmed by everything around us.
Meditation is a powerful tool to achieve mindfulness. And it is an activity that helps us to focus our thoughts, calm our minds and in turn be more productive in our daily lives.
Breathing exercises is a simple meditation technique we can do easily, anytime anywhere. In science, breathing exercises delivers more oxygen to our brain and body which is known to have multiple benefits. Consciously breathe in, and consciously breathe out, focusing your thoughts on each breath you take to exercise focus and awareness. You can do it when you wake up, before sleeping, in between work breaks to give you a regular dose of peace. Yoga meditation music is also something you can engage in. It is something you can listen to anytime, anywhere.
Mindfulness takes practice, and the more you do meditation techniques the more mindful you become and the more peace you enjoy in your life.
